Some of our other tasks include..... Painting, Caulking, Sanding, Trimming, and Mudding!! The boys also put in floor joices. They are now ready to put in some floor.

Our living area for the week

We are all in the narthex area of the church, but don't worry Mom's and Dad's, the boys and girls are separated:)  No purpling here!  Welcome to our home:

Day 1: Fun Stuff!

There are 2 other groups about the same size we are staying at the church at the same time.  There are 2 male showers and 2 female showers in trailers for all of us.... SO... I contacted the YMCA down the street and we fit in about 45 minutes of some rather warm pool time, and AWESOME showers!  As long as our schedule goes as planned, we will head to the YMCA after our work is complete every afternoon before we have dinner back at the church.  Tonight, we went and had some frozen yogurt and then toured the Opryland Hotel.  The gardens and waterfalls were beautiful!  The boys and girls split up-- the girls had a photo shoot and the boys... did boy things (I don't know, I wasn't with them!)  Enjoy some fun pics:

Day 1 Work Complete!

We were up at 6:15am or so, eating breakfast at 7am, got our work assignments and were off!  We went to a property with 3 houses, 1 was to be demolished due to damage, the main one has been worked on all summer and the 3rd house we started work on today.  Some of the boys also dug a trench, that was pretty impressive.  Let's just say the intern on site told me that she 'demanded' the guy in charge that we come back every day:)  Here are a few pics of our work:

I received compliments about how hard our youth were working!  They are awesome.  I am so proud of them!  

We have arrived!

We have arrived with 10 youth, 4 adults, 1 van and 1 trailer-- I think we are good!

So far:

We have established we do not care for White Castle.  Some of the comments include:
"After the first one, they were disgusting and I ate 4"-- Zach
"They're like the serpent in the Garden of Eden, they lure you in with good looking food, but in the end, they are bad for you."  --Curtis
"They were slimy..." --Zach again (and everyone else)
"There are holes in the meat!" --Jordan

Then we ran into some traffic...while Kevin discovered our gas light had been on...oops.  No worries, we got it taken care of.

We have arrived, made our beds and getting ready for dinner-- Shalom until tomorrow!

Mission Trip 2011: Nashville, TN

It's time for the 2011 CYF Mission Trip for the youth of South Summit Christian Church to Nashville, TN!

If all goes as planned, I will again be updating posts about our trip as well as posting pictures with the help of the youth!  I am really excited to be the hands and feet of God with the greatest youth around!

A few updates from last mission trip:  I have set it up so the parents should all receive an email notifying you of an update on the blog!  The comments have also been enabled, so anyone and everyone can comment on different posts!  Feel free to send messages to the group, and I will read them to everyone.
